Caring, Expert ADHD Treatment in Greenville

ADHD Diagnosis– Now What?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by executive dysfunction with symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and emotional dysregulation.  A diagnosis of ADHD brings with it a variety of emotions. One of the biggest is the feeling of being overwhelmed.  What’s the first step you should take to help your child or young adult get on the road to success in school, the workplace, and life?

As an experienced, highly trained, and compassionate psychologist, I consider it a special privilege to help young people with ADHD understand their unique challenges, explore the many tools and strategies available to them, and find success in what they love doing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and ADHD

With years of work in the field of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), I offer a great deal of help to clients with ADHD. I use this incredibly powerful approach to guide people in modifying the thought patterns, behaviors, and feelings that lead to negative outcomes for their mental health.

As humans, we easily settle into familiar ways of thinking and find it very difficult to break out of them. With gentle, consistent, and expert guidance, however, it is possible. This is what cognitive behavioral therapy is all about, and I have found it to be extremely helpful for clients across all ages and personalities.

Those who are looking for ADHD treatment are often considering whether or not they want to pursue a medication based treatment. In our consultations, I can explain the many different factors that you should take into account when making this important decision, and I will also help you apply those factors to your child’s unique mental makeup and personality. Every person is different, and the ideal way to combat ADHD varies between individuals.

Before starting my practice providing therapy and ADHD treatment in Greenville, I studied at Emory University, Argosy University, and Vanderbilt University specializing in children and family issues including ADHD. I have provided training in CBT for national organizations, helping other counselors understand how to use this impactful approach.

While there are a plethora of potential root causes of ADHD, genetic and to a lesser extent environmental factors are believed to account for this neurodevelopmental disorder.  Psychoeducation, CBT, and if needed medication may be beneficial in managing ADHD effectively.
